Incontro con John Patrick Hemingway

Memorable Event for the "Raggi e ArchiTetture" - Ville di Lignano Association

The 40th edition of the Hemingway Prize in Lignano Sabbiadoro was an extraordinary occasion for our association, "Raggi e ArchiTetture" - Ville di Lignano. We had the honor of hosting John Patrick Hemingway, the grandson of the legendary writer Ernest Hemingway, in one of our villas. This meeting was a significant moment, not only to celebrate Hemingway’s literary legacy but also to share our projects aimed at enhancing the Lignano territory with John.

John Patrick Hemingway, writer and journalist, attended the Hemingway Prize awards ceremony on June 29, engaging in an enthralling talk with the 2024 winners: Benjamin Labatut, Irina Ščerbakova, Vittorino Andreoli, Francesco Finotto, and Vincenzo Schettini. During his stay, we had the opportunity to converse with him and share our efforts to preserve and promote the cultural and natural heritage of Lignano Sabbiadoro.

Our association is dedicated to promoting the area through projects that blend architecture, history, and culture. Hosting John Patrick Hemingway was a privilege that allowed us to introduce our initiatives to an internationally renowned figure. John showed particular interest in our project to restore the historic villas of Lignano, an initiative that aims to enhance these residences through restorations that respect the original architecture and the surrounding environment.
During our meeting, John shared fascinating anecdotes about his family and their connection to Italy. He spoke of his special bond with our country, where he lived for nearly two decades in Milan, and how his Italian experiences have influenced his writing. This exchange of stories and ideas was enriching and strengthened our determination to continue working for the benefit of the Lignano territory.
John also presented his new book, "Ron Echeverría: A Miami Story", a noir set against the backdrop of the current southern U.S. border. The presentation was a highlight for all attendees, offering reflections on the complexities of family and social dynamics that often emerge in his writings.

The encounter with John Patrick Hemingway was one of the highlights of the 40th edition of the Hemingway Prize, an event that paid tribute to the figure and work of the great American writer. We are grateful to have hosted John and had the opportunity to share with him the beauty and significance of our work. This event reinforced our belief that dialogue between culture and territory is crucial for valuing our roots and promoting a sustainable and meaningful future for Lignano Sabbiadoro.
