Aldo Bernardis - Azienda di soggiorno, 1968-1972

Lignano Sabbiadoro - via Latisana, 42

Fotografia: Archivio Aldo Bernardis

The Tourist Office building in Lignano Sabbiadoro, designed by Aldo Bernardis and constructed between 1968 and 1972 at Via Latisana 42, is a notable example of modern Italian architecture. The original project, ambitious in scope, envisioned not only the construction of the Tourist Office headquarters but also residential buildings and perimeter galleries, which were never realized.

The architectural volume is defined by a trapezoidal section, giving the complex a dynamic and modern shape. This volume is framed by four square protrusions that house the staircases, giving the structure an articulated and balanced appearance. The arrangement of these elements creates a sense of stability and rationality, typical of 1960s and 1970s architecture.

One of the building's standout features is the large entrance canopy that extends prominently across the main facade. This canopy, with its considerable overhang, plays both a functional role in protecting from the elements and an aesthetic one, contributing to the facade’s character. Along with the two symmetrical concrete drain spouts, it creates a striking chiaroscuro effect.

Inside, the building features a series of spacious areas, designed to accommodate representative functions and welcome visitors into a bright and inviting environment.

Lignano: Public Works and Tourist Development (1970-2000)

In the 1970s and 1980s, Lignano consolidated its position as a major tourist destination, completing significant public works such as the Pineta church, the Town Hall, and the Arena for concerts. Lignano Riviera enriched itself with prestigious architecture, following the best Italian design of the time, while striving to maintain a calm and quiet environment in contrast to the more chaotic tourist development.
